LEESBURG — Recognition has been slow in coming for the Leesburg High School girls basketball team. The Yellow Jackets played through last season with an 18-2 record, won conference, district, and regional semifinal championships but were never ranked.
When this year's first Class AAA girls basketball poll was released by the Florida Sports Writers Association, Leesburg was left off again. But following Friday night's 53-33 domination of an expectedly strong Clermont team in the season opener, Leesburg slipped into the receiving votes category in this week's poll, which was released Tuesday.
