Leesburg's Pearl Johnson selected to the Class 5A all-state girls basketball first team, April 10, 2008

Lake County Player of the Year Pearl Johnson of Leesburg was selected to the Class 5A all-state girls basketball first team, while Jordan Coleman of Lake Mary and Brooke Thomas of Edgewater earned spots on the 6A first team.

In all, 17 Central Florida players were selected to the two classes' all-state teams.
Johnson, who will play for UAB, finished her high school career as the school's all-time leading scorer, and the 5-foot-7 guard led her team to back-to-back state final-four appearances.

Coleman and Thomas each led their schools to state championships during their high school careers.
Coleman, who will play for Vanderbilt, was selected 6A state MVP when the Rams won in 2006. Thomas, who will play for Wake Forest, led Edgewater to a title in 2007.

Angela Felton of Leesburg and Ashley Jones of Lake Howell made the 5A second team. Tenia Manuel of Leesburg and Shari Hightower of Daytona Beach Mainland were on the third team, while Olivia Nino of Mainland was an honorable-mention choice.

Jalana Childs of Timber Creek and Brittany Hardy of Apopka were selected to the 6A second team. Jessica Bivins of Edgewater was on the third team while Selina Archer of Clermont East Ridge, Maddie Cummings of Freedom, Aisha Gillis of Port Orange Spruce Creek, Toshana Gordon of DeLand, Leo Montalvo of Boone and Morgan Jones of Lake Mary were honorable-mention choices.
