SANFORD - Angela Felton scored 25 points to lead the Gulf Coast women's basketball team to an 82-36 win over Indian River Community College on Saturday.
Felton, a freshman guard from Leesburg, made 6 of 10 three-pointers for the defending national champion Lady Commodores (2-0).
Felton was not the only freshman to have a good afternoon for Gulf Coast: Andrea Smith, a guard from Lakeland, added 17 points and five rebounds; Taylor Dalrymple, of Atlanta, added 10 points and equaled a team-high six rebounds; and Paige McCallum, of Whiteville, N.C., also had six rebounds.
The Lady Commodores led 36-17 at halftime. Gulf Coast shot 51 percent from the field, and was 5 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Keona Dixon scored 10 points to lead Indian River.
Gulf Coast will play Santa Fe College in Marianna at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Lady Commodores don't play at home until the opening night of the Gulf Coast Classic on Nov. 21.
